Music to Unite Us—The Power of a Sacred Global CosmoPop Concert
by L'aFar
When the mode of music changes, the walls of the city shake.”
~ Plato
Due to technological advances in reaching the entire world, for example, via satellite and the Internet, in the past fifty years the power of music has had a greater impact on our culture than at any other time in history. It has always played a significant part in the lives of all peoples of the planet, but only in recent times has it maintained the ability to transform the lives of any and all listeners. Music now has the potential power to overthrow governments, create racial and social equality, even save entire ecosystems. One of the greatest powers it has always had is the power to unite. Not only music, but all of the arts speak to our emotions. At a rock concert, thousands of people are sharing one experience and can be united in happiness, sadness, or anger. The energy of this intense concentration of emotion has a profound and far-reaching effect and can create something very beautiful or very ugly. As an artist, the power of the music is in your hands.
True art is innovation. In an art festival like Burning Man, held for a week annually in the northern Nevada desert, radical innovation is the focus. Burning Man started off on a beach in San Francisco, when a small group of people got together to watch a twenty-foot-tall wooden man burn. Now it's one of the biggest festivals in the world. It's an event that must be experienced to be understood, and as I have never taken part in it myself, I can only say so much. It's a temporary mini-culture that seeks to create a reality completely different from the everyday norm. Unrestricted creativity and self-expression make an innovative alternative lifestyle that inspires very unique artistic creations.
The arts can both help individuals to see and address the problems of the world or make them blind to reality. Some are so fed up with the woes of daily life on our planet that they say “Forget it,” and escape to something like a Rainbow Gathering. For three decades Deadheads found solace in the music of the Grateful Dead and sculpted their own way of life which bonded them together as a family in which drugs unfortunately played a large part. This world has some heavy-duty problems and running away from responsibility won't solve them.
In the last few years, music festivals have been generally on the decline. Even large, featured-act arena concerts have lost their popularity to higher-priced shows in smaller venues. Lollapalooza, America's premiere annual traveling rock and alternative music festival throughout most of the nineties, was forced to cancel this summer because of low ticket sales. Though somewhat activist-oriented with its program the Revolution Solution, I think Lollapalooza never seized the opportunity it had to be a real promotional vehicle for global change. Even hugely popular benefit festivals and concerts such as Live-Aid have not had a lasting effect on the minds and hearts of those in the mainstream culture. Big Christian rock music festivals like Cornerstone and FreedomFest have increased their attendance numbers and brought many youth closer to God.
What these festivals and Christian pop music in general lack is a bridge of connection with peoples from all religions and cultures. It is my opinion that most Christian pop music lacks diversity in melody and is fundamentalistic in the message, and New Age music often lacks the Spirit of Truth, which recognizes Jesus Christ Michael as a divine Son of God. Mucha of the secular music replaces the spirit with drugs and alcohol.
In my nine years at Aquarian Concepts Community, I've come to realize at a beginning level what Gabriel of Sedona's unique style of music, CosmoPop, can do for the world. As a musician myself, I hear the music and the lyrics Gabriel and his Bright & Morning Star Band are striving to present to the world as about global change—fixing this planet by helping people realize the Father-/Motherhood of God and the brother-/sisterhood of humankind. In my experiences of attending concerts and various events, I think more so than any other music festival or concert now and in the past, a Sacred Global CosmoPop Concert can truly unite those open to the message in Gabriel's feature song on his third CD, Energy Master—“Your [God’s] desire is what I'm after.” To change the world for the better you must first change yourself.
Events like Rainbow Gatherings and Burning Man can create a lifestyle that's beautiful but only temporary. In this day and age our society needs more than that to really set things straight. A Sacred Global CosmoPop Concert awakens and uplifts my soul, taking my mind to new and higher places—without the shallow thrill and harmful effects of drugs. It speaks to all religions and ethnic groups, taking the best of every culture and displaying the common foundation which we all share.
So if you have a spirit for global change and love beautiful music that grooves, join me at Future Studios in Sedona, Arizona on September 4th, 2004 to experience a CosmoPop concert for yourself. Come support a true musical innovator and be a part of something really unique and different. Gabriel's CosmoPop invites an unseen but present interdimensional audience—one must be there to experience this supernatural link. But the music is not typical spiritual or worship music. CosmoPop is "spiritually hip vocal music"—the music grooves your every particle.
